The Cranberries' song Zombie is a powerful protest song written in response to the tragic deaths of two young boys, Jonathan Ball (3 years old) and Tim Parry (12 years old), in the 1993 IRA bombing in Warrington, England. The Irish band was deeply affected by the senseless violence associated with the conflict in Northern Ireland, often referred to as "The Troubles."

Dolores O'Riordan, the band's lead singer, wrote the song to express her anger and frustration over the continuing cycle of violence.
